Kristian House beat a strong field to take the British road race title in Abergavenny, Wales.
The Rapha Condor rider - who is British-born and based but was raised in the USA - sealed the biggest win of his career against a line-up that featured Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Peter Kennaugh.
The returning Pro Tour riders go off to a ferocious start but House kept in touch throughout.
Froome - in his debut British championships after switching nationality - made a break on the three-mile Tumble climb.
However, House, Kennaugh, Dan Lloyd and Ian Stannard stayed with the Kenyan-born star while the others faded.
Stannard pulled out with cramp and Froome attacked with a lap to go.
But with two kilometres left he was caught by House, Kennaugh and Lloyd and it was House who edged the downhill sprint to take the 2009 title.
Sprint king Cavendish finished sixth.
