Real Madrid have reportedly offered 32 million euros for Lyon striker Karim Benzema after switching their attention to the France international from Valencia forward David Villa.
Spanish sports daily Marca said the French have yet to respond to Real's offer but last week Bernard Lacombe, adviser to Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas, told Marca that "nothing is impossible and if we receive a good offer we will not close the door to anyone."
Lyon's director of communication Olivier Blanc said merely that "the only news is Real Madrid contacted Lyon a few days ago to discuss Karim Benzema."
"Benzema and Olympique Lyon confirmed his initial desire is to stay another year with Lyon," Blanc said, adding that was also the club's preference.
Manchester United are also admirers of Benzema but Real have decided to swoop now given the reluctance of Valencia's new chairman Manuel Llorente to sell them Spain striker Villa.
Real chairman Florentino Perez, who has already landed Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka this summer for huge fees, has twice met with Benzema's agent Karim Djaziri, first in Madrid then Geneva, Marca reported last Wednesday as the chase hotted up.
As well as a cash deal, media reports in Spain say Real and Lyon could look at a part-exchange in the shape of either Real's Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar or his compatriot, winger Arjen Robben.

People are not judged by their colour of skin. So are footballers. I hope next season LaLiga will be worth watching. At least one can expect the contention to be very hot than ever.
Getachew44.... are you simple in the f**king head or what, you are the one who is racist, without even realising it, if you think a club should have a certain amount of black players in it just to appear they are not racist then you are very ignorant and naive, people should be in a side based on ability and ability only, not wether they are black, oriental, indian or any other race. you are what is wrong with the world..... Tit!!
I don't know though, because if we sell mamudo diara, and loan drenthe out, than madrid will look like a racist club, because they will have less black people than barcelona, because they will only have two, the other diara and marchelo, where as barca they have Toure, Keita, Henry, Abidal, Eto'o. And I have always called barca racist, but I guess I'm wrong, because madrid is being worse now. Anyways, barcelona and their fans, I'm sorry for calling your club a racist, I guess I was wrong.
I think we still need to sing villa he the best striker it the world by miles & by playing with the likes of kaka ron raul he will show just how awesome he is.& yea we do need a left back but if pelegreeny could win with villareal just think what he will do with the mighty whites.& dont forget we"ve not finished in the transfare market yet & i cannot wait for the new season to start.so all tham that iv give us @#$% will look on in awe................A REAL FAN
stop your negative comments about real, go mind your own business.
real madrid brought two attacking midfields and two diffender
kaka ronaldo albeol and garay, everything is balanced and we still have more.
so bother others.
now everything is ok saviola and canavaro have been sold to benfica and juventus
mamudo diara will be sold to juve
drentti to firontina
hainzi to totenham
vandervaart back to hamburg
mezelder to stutgart
huntelar to arsenal
tores and javi garcia to getafi
salgado to espanyol
we have brought ronaldo kaka albeol and garay
now we need to bring only 3 players
benzema, (any good leftback) and xabi alonso
we also have to keep robenn, nisterlrooy, snijder and lass
this way we will be the best team on the planet
one thing no one know
zidane is helping real madrid in this case
look everyone 2 teams are interseted
real and united
but real madrid is the only team make a real offer
others talk only
benzema is beter for 32 million then ribery for 60 million and he will play with kaka beter then ronaldo will
talk about him maybe going to arsenal is absolutely rubbish. Have you ever seen arsenal spend 30 millon on a player??? Arsenal are stuck with the likes of Eboue, diaby, denilson and bendtner
Karim really resebles Zidane himself. And i think this resemblence might serve as a link between them. Which in turn, may result in Zidane to talk Karim into joining Real Madrid. Perez has not hired Zidane just for nothing. He is well aware of his authority over footballers, especially of french.
What is real doing ? its look like they are playing FIFA 2009 video game.....................Reality is different..................They bought ALBIOL & should buy some defenders....................this is there main problem.................................They do not know how to create talents..........They can destroy talents.................Someday real will pay for this................Barca won trevle bcoz of Outstanding team chemistry not of high quality players.......................Real will pay weel but may not win any cups.................
haha... Real to sign Benzema? Owh, come on!!! If Benzema is clever, I dont think he will go to Real... real already has bunch of striker and foward... Ronaldo, Kaka, Robben, Nistelrooy etc... He will make it on the bench only... Real is talent destroyer... United is talent maker... Haha...
To Perez: Please buy defenders... Good team not only by its foward, but also its striker... If the defend is 'suck', and the forwards are strong, I think maybe Real will lost by 4-3 or draw by 4-4... haha
d.papas:
sorry mate i used an old exchange rate and got it completely wrong.
here are the actual values:
man united bid 35mil pounds = around 41mil euros
real madrid bid 32mil euros = around 27mil pounds
so man united are still bidding 9mil euros more than real madrid.
omnitrix626, How the hell are you converting your euro's mate? The pound is only worth €1.12??
getachew44 - do you think Barca will happily sell to their biggest rivals when City are offering silly money and he is very unlikely to play against them as City probably end up 5th next season at best?
Real Madrid cannot afford this they have already used all "their" money on the most overrated player ever; Ronaldo. They will have to sell most of the squad to afford this, i just dont understand what they are thinking with. Their problem is the defence so why just buy attacking players? Real Madrid wont beat Barcelona anyway.
to Raimo
benzema and alonso are very close
what do u think?
to Raimo
what did u think mate?
i think like we said before
it is better to bring benzema
after benzema, we have to think about left back
HAHA MANURE LOL!!!!!!!!
