Premier League - Torres seeks Spanish recruits

Eurosport - Sun, 28 Jun 15:37:00 2009

Fernando Torres has revealed he has recommended three of his Spanish compatriots to Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

FOOTBALL 2008-09 Premier League Liverpool striker Fernando Torress - 0

The Spain striker believes the Reds need "small players with quality" to finally wrest the Premier League title from Manchester United and would like Benitez to sign David Silva, Juan Mata or David Villa from Valencia.

"English football is very difficult because it's very physical and played at a high tempo," Torres said. "We have a fantastic team to play against the big teams and we are competitive.

"But maybe against those teams lower down we are not good enough. We have to improve that and I think we can.

"I think we can definitely be stronger at home. We have some very good players but maybe we need other players. I hope Liverpool will bring people like Silva, Mata or Villa. These are small players with quality like United had with Carlos Tevez and also with Paul Scholes.

"They are clever players and maybe they can make the difference. Yossi Benayoun plays like these kind of players and I hope we can bring more like that so then we have different options to play against all the sides."

  2. bigheadbill33 Not slagged of Liverpool, just deluded fans, in case you've not read your own stuff all you're doing is lstaing utd. As for the rooney thing, he also played out of position like kuyt and as for dodgy facts, read you previous message, x amount of goals and "many" assists. What sort of stat is that? If you don't rate rooney its probably more down to you hating england / utd / everton! Check his performance for england up front. where he will spend this season!

  4. d.papas Robinho 14 goals in league games 30 games many assists Rooney 12 goals and played more games than Robinho Durk Kuyt playing out on the right wing 12 prem goals many many assists if you dont support a prem team do you just pop up on the stories of top teams to quote silly facts and try to vex people who do you support Newcastle lmao

  5. kristinawalst25, go check any UTD story and count the liverpool supporters messages?! So hush ya gums! I dare ya to come here on Jan 1st and compare team positions! You're best player who is meant to love you was gonna leave but got scraed off by some thugs for crying out loud! A succesful business has to be able to move on and grow, Ronaldo was nothing when he joined and great when he left. Fergie will find plenty more yet!

  6. bigheadbill33 i said i don't support a prem team! Not i don't like footy! Please read! UTD didn't want tevez or would of bought him earlier, he wasn't theirs to lose either. They never owned him. And rooney, ferdinand and vidic are all better than him. Granted Ronaldo is class, but they lost their best cb in stam, mf in beckham, gk in Schmeichel and forwrd in Van Nist and are still on top. So i thiink they'll still be around next year! Berbatov had a bad year, but then again, Keane didn't exactly fly and neither did robinho. UTD's core is sound so they'll be there or there abouts! The only top 4 that looks vulnerable is Arsenal!

  7. d.papas, if you dont like football or support United why are coming out with inane stats on success, I remember when United went 30 years without winning much it all goes in roundabouts its clear united are no longer a force in the world game and with the influx of Arab money in the game cant compete with there nearest rivals City Tevez jumped off the sinking ship to go to sunny Moss side what does that tell you about United Sold your best asset Ron to a Rival club if you dont like football or support the Manure why are you coming on here all afternoon talking about football facts he is a fact for you United have lost there 2 best players spent millions on rubbish like Berba Nani Anderson ect and its great.

  8. big_man_rude_dude, sorry to upset you mate but firstly i don't actually support any team in the prem, just get amused by liverpool fans saying how fantastic they are, even though they've done nothing in the league (bread and butter) for 20 years!

Secondly i measure succes as trophies per season, as this makes is seem sustained Liverpool have 58 in 117 years making it 0.496 where as utd is 56 in 107 making it 0.52 a year. The reason i do it like that is beacuse certain teams have been succesful over a short period, say chelski. But overall are worse than teams like derby, villa, forest etc!

    From d.papas, on Sun 28 Jun 2:34PM
  9. d.papas why dont you go on a united story @#$% and moan and cry about ronaldo and Tevez your not even the best team in Manchester never mind the Uk, Europe or the world all your best players always get sold to Madrid thats how big united are if Rooney was good enough they would take him aswell, but hes average good when he was a kid but gone backwards with his form I will look forward to January as well when u bitter backstabing glory hunters are talking rubbish on Liverpool stories and your not in the top 6.

Actually you'll find Liverpool are the most successful in England.
Another case of a Man Utd supporting gloryhunter not knowing his team's history...

  11. kristinawalst25, behave yourself! I look forward to your text in January when Utd are in the runnig whilst you count 19-0 and blame rafa for rotation! AS HAS BEEN THE CASE FOR LAST THREE SEASONS! Utd have lost many good players and carried on, All you are doing is proving your jealousy and fear of the most successful in england!

  12. quatt47 he was playing for the club he supported as a boy and being well payed brought through the youth teams kissed the badge then sould his soul to the red devil, hes saved everton? why did moyes try so hard to keep him out of the hands of Utd? hes not lived up to his rep anyway his goal stats in the league for a striker are quite poor.

  14. To No 58. Yet again you like many others, have misinterpreted Rooney's 'Once a blue always a blue' comment. If you take it in context what he actually said was something like 'In Liverpool you either support Everton or Liverpool, there's no in between. My family are Everton supporters so I was brought up as one. I was told 'Once a blue always a blue, never a red.' He was talking about the team that his family supported, NOT which team he may play for during the rest of his career. Anyway the Everton management are on record to say that Rooney saved them, as the money from his sale saved them from administration and enebled them to buy six replacement players. Not a bad bit of business when you consider that Rooney hadn't even thought of a move until they suggested it to him. He then had a choice of Manchester United or Newcastle. Some choice!!! Pity we couldn't have afforded him at Wigan.

  15. Lets all laugh at Man U lets all Laugh Man nana nana nah nah, wheres Ronaldo gone wasnt he the darling of the club world player of the year top scorer and held united up for the last 3-4 years now u have fat rooney who doesnt score a lot Man city have better squad players who wont play a lot than uniteds first team this season should be very interesting, and I bet all these mancs dont start coming out the woodwork talking cak in Jan when your out of any chance of winning the league.

  18. Jimmyrice I cant wait for the season to start never seen such a weak united side for a long time, City will finish above ure crumbling squad of pensioners, role on 15th August see how cocky you are by december u manure muppet, going on about Rooney when his goals stats in the league a worse than Dirk Kuyt and he plays out of possition manc Mong lol
Mate, compare the squads honestly? I mean yeah they have a few older heads. But they all performed! And i'm pretty sure that foster, rio, vidic, evans, o'shea, both da silva twins, fletcher, nani, anderson, carrick, park, rooney, berbatov, macheda are hardly pensioners! I admire you're optimsm but i think it could soon be 19-0

  19. Wonder how long before the selling team United sell there once a blue always a blue Rooney to the sky blue of City. No loyalty in football ask Rooney he sold his soul and Ronaldo they will kiss any badge and then take off to the highest bidder.
