Som Tala romps to Plate win

Eurosport - Sun, 28 Jun 08:26:00 2009

Som Tala made all the running in winning the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle, Europe's richest stayers' handicap.

HORSE RACING Jockey Tony Culhane - 0

The nine-year-old romped to the £180,000 contest, eading from the start in the two-miler to win by three-quarters of a length from Wells Lyrical.

"I have had a few rides going into the race with half-chances, but all have bombed out so it is great to have won it at last," jockey Tony Culhane said.

"This is the first time I have ridden Som Tala, but (trainer Mick Channon) is a great man to ride for - he gives you a free rein to ride your race and whatever decision you make, he stands by you.

"I did not want to make sure I gave the advantage of a good draw away so we went on and I knew nothing would get past him in the closing stages.

"I have been riding for 24 years and you need to be riding in these good races on horses with a good chance."

Culhane and Channon added to their success by landing the Maiden Stakes with The Human League.

Oh and at least i had the guts to front you and tell you i was reporting you; i didn't go behind your back like a snivelling little snitch . . . always knew you were a coward.

  3. Jack please behave man!
It was ashley who got rid of Big Sham not the fans; the day he took over, Sham's doom was sealed!
ashley thought he had the other dodgy one (Redknapp) all signed. sealed and delivered and proceeded to fire Allardyce without actually getting him (Redknapp) to sign first; the first in a long, long line of catastrophic decisions made by this fool.
And yes you are right, you would've defo been a better director of football than Weasel-Wise . . .without a doubt!

  6. Jack -
I'm sure you would have been a better Director of Football than Dennis Wise but then I can't think of anyone who would have been worse. Shearer has little management experience but he does have leadership experience and the respect of players, staff and supporters. This club needs stability right now and most of us believe he will bring that. If it doesn't go right I'll bet he will walk away - not hang on to pick up a fat payoff like most managers.

From Hutch, on Tue 30 Jun 1:07PM
  7. but Hutch totally agree with your assessment,I would make a very good director of football, certainly better than Wise, just pass my name on and I'll expect a call from St Shearer,p.s I've had about as much management experience as him so we'll both head out to Doncaster and scunthorpe together.By the way haven't they got pretty crests, never seen them before.

  8. m m m Bolton,Blackburn seemed and seem to do okay under him why not NUFC? expectations to high me thinks? What you guys fail to realise is that it takes time,Keane was given three seasons not 8 or was it 9 months?

From jack torrance, on Tue 30 Jun 12:29PM
  9. Jack behave, this is the man that gave us the following Superstars:
Barton, Viduka, Cacapa, Smith, Geremi & Enrique - they all played a significant part in NUFC's demise.
Tell me Jack, how many of them would you take for safc; even for free?

From cameron w, on Mon 29 Jun 8:33PM
  10. Oh Jack, if only we'd had you employed as a footaballing expert to tell us not to sack Sam Allardyce - then we'd still be in the Premiership. Damn! Was that when we had it good was it? Oh those heady days when Big Sam was at the helm and we had the nerve to sack him when things were so great. NUFC supporters can get anyone sacked you know, we can even dictate the colour of the new away strip. In the last few games I was personally chanting 'We want a yellow away strip next season' it was only me but I got what I wanted.

From Hutch, on Mon 29 Jun 8:25PM
  11. jack....the away support always chanted sams name, even his last away game at stoke they were behind him,but a few idiots did boo him at home, just like some mackems bood keane long before he left, and no i dont think allardyce would of kept us up,some of his formations were, lets say square pegs in round holes.

  13. hutch . . does the name Sam Allerdyce ring any bells? put simply if he hadn't been churlishly hounded out by the terraces you would have still been in the premiership

  14. Came2kwikalot:?
    Nah, that doesn't work JOkeJo!
It's a pronunciation thing you know; 'Cam' and 'Came' sound differently, and therefore i cannot see any association with Cameron when you use 'Came2kwikalot' - are you catching my drift here?
    'Camerot' works tho!

  15. Ha, ha Jack!
I had to go looking myself; wow, we have fallen haven't we - some illustrious company in there!
Like it's already been mentioned tho, no problemmo for you lot finding us - you've all been here before, haven't you (3 times isn't it!).
