Benfica have completed the signing of Javier Saviola from Real Madrid for five million euros.

FOOTBALL Real Madrid Javier Saviola - 0

The 27-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the option of a fourth with the Portuguese giants after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

The Argentina international had been seeking a move away from Real for some time after failing to establish himself at the Bernabeu.

Indeed, Saviola made less than twenty league appearnaces during his two seasons in the Spanish capital since joining from Barcelona, scoring just four goals in La Liga in that time.

Real were willing to allow his departure following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka recently.

A statement on the team website confirmed as much, saying: "The club want to thank the player and wish him the best of success in this new stage of his career."

Benfica appointed former Braga coach Jorge Jesus as their new manager last week.

  2. I hope saviola becomes good like he was in Barca, but that will not happen, because there he had great players supporting saviola. Even in madrid, where there were some good players, he still could not be as good as he was with Barca. Lets just hope he has better luck in Benfica.
