Greg Abbott expects July to be a crucial month for Carlisle as the club look to pick up the pace in their preparations for the new season.

United's players return to pre-season training on Wednesday and manager Abbott believes the next four weeks will be vital both on and off the pitch.

He told the club's official website: "July is an important month for us. We want to make sure the players we bring in are right and the things we do on the training pitch are right.

"If we get that side of things done properly then I think we're going to be a really decent side next season.

"A lot of work has been done in the last six or seven weeks in an attempt to make signings happen, but we should really start to see movement after July 1 when contracts come to an end.

"I would expect to see the merry-go-round really kick in over the course of the next two to three weeks. I think that things will look a little bit clearer probably towards the middle of next month."
