Lawro concerns over Irvine

Sun 28 Jun, 02:30 PM

Former Preston defender Mark Lawrenson fears the club will have little chance of keeping Alan Irvine if West Brom step up their bid to lure the Deepdale boss to The Hawthorns.

Irvine has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Tony Mowbray as Baggies boss following his impressive work with the Lilywhites.

"In my book, Alan Irvine is the best manager in the Championship and his work at Preston has not gone unnoticed in the football world," Lawrenson told the Lancashire Evening Post.

"Of course, every Preston fan will be hoping Alan stays, but if West Bromwich do come in then it is going to be extremely hard for PNE to hang on to him.

"Football is a hard-nosed business and WBA simply have more resources than Preston, they are in a stronger position financially. No Preston fan would want Alan Irvine to go, but it could be inevitable if West Bromwich make an official approach."

  1. You can't crucify Morrisson and Brunt yet, you are assuming that they are going yet neither has expressed a desire to leave. I actually know Brunty personally through our kids and he told me that 95% of the squad was willing to stay and try and get us back up. I presume the other 5% meant Robinson and Mowbray!!

As for Mowbrays comments, he made what he believed were the right noises, how was he to know that Celtic would come calling, it's like if Man U come back in for Greening, even after what he has said about wanting a new 5-year deal, I wouldn't blame him, the same as I don't blame Mowbray.

Remember that it is just a job to these guys keith, nothing more. If someone offered you 3 x your salary and 10 x the resources with 10 x the amount of support your telling me you'd remain loyal? Rubbish.

As for Valero, I did know about him as I watch a lot of Spanish football and he always impressed, I'm not saying he hasn't been disappointing but he hasn't been a patch on:-

    Meite - Truelly Awful

Robinson - Now there's somone with no loyalty

    Kim - WTF?

Moore - Embaressment. Plain and Simple

The difference is that we believed in a system and trusted it even though it was painfully obvious that we didn't have the players to back the system up. Again I hav no regrets, I believe that Peace is running the club correctly - We don't have a millionaire owner so why does everyone want us to spend cash we don't have??

  2. Paul C, im amazed you defend Brunt and call him one of 4 `great` player we have, along with Morrisson he will be gone,Bedner who by his actions let me,you and 25,000 die hard albion fans down by involving himself in drugs will be gone,as for Valero, can you honestly tell me you had heard of him before he played against us in a friendly answer is no,as for trator mowbray, this turncoat asked us and the players to get behind him and then jump ship to a two team league thats loyalty for you,im sorry Paul if my comments upset you but i havea right to voice mine,....come on we were @#$% last season, couldnt defend couldnt score,we went away and gave away matches were you at newcstle, wigan, west ham,cos i was and i felt pig sick we couldnt beat any of them, the difference my friend was 4 poxy points and if we had got them, stayed up would mowbray had gone ??? boing boing

  3. Kenneth K - What you talking about?

Some of the players on your list are a given but you have named four great players.

Brunt - Top Goalscorer for us, Played 2nd half of season better than anyone

Morrisson - A quality player who unfortunatly got struck by injuries.

As for traitor Mowbray, Can you blame him?

Celtic offered him Champions League football and the 2nd largest fan base in Britian.

Unfortunatly we have to accept that we are not a big club and that Mowbray at least showed us wonderful football and brought in 2m when he left.

Forget about him and move forward.

Bednar - Scored 6 in 11 games, better than a 1 in 2 ratio. If he can get over drug accusations he will be a force in the championship

Valero - God your so short-sighted. The best player at the albion. Period. He got brought by Mowbray as an attacking midfielder and got turned into a defensive one, this is a 23 year old lightweight spanish kid who Mowbray tried to turn into Mcinnes. Blame Mowbray, not Valero.

  4. alan irvine has done his apprentiship and would fit the bill at albion, but what budget will he have dead wood needs clearing out and replaced such as
    Miette
    Robinson
    Barnett
    Kim
    Brunt
    Morrisson
    Moore
    Be dner
    and 5milion waster Valero
So mr peace the ball is in your court.............get him in and splash our cash...put the memory of traitor mowbray to rest.................we need to hit the ground running against newcastle so the new man has to get it right.....
    come on you baggies..........

  5. If I was a Preston fan I wouldn't be too worried by Lauro's 'predictions' - as a Stoke City fan, one of the pre-match rituals we had last season was to read Mystic Mark's predictions in the Satursay papers. If he said we were going to lose, then we could go to the match happy that the three points were in the bag! In 38 attempts last season, he correctly predicted the result five times...
