Crewe boss Steve Holland believes intensive work with Calvin Zola is paying off and reckons the forward is fast developing into a true poacher. The £200,000 signing from Tranmere scored a first-half hat-trick, which included a spectacular volley, in Crewe's emphatic 4-0 win over Premier League new boys Hull City at Gresty Road on Saturday.
But it was Zola's simple conversion from six yards that fuelled Holland's optimism.
"His first goal I am more interested in than the volley because he has got a goal in the six-yard box which we did not notice him doing too often previously and we have been on to him about that all summer," he told the club's official website.
"Obviously we will not have cracked that already but it was an encouraging sign and if he ends up in the right position he has a chance of getting that type of goal.
"His second goal is the ability we have seen in him although to be fair not too often."
