Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is keen to give trialists Leslie Thompson and Michael Burns another chance to impress this week.Thompson, 19, is a free agent after being released by Bolton at the start of the summer, while Burns is still contracted to the Premier League side, and both played the first 45 minutes of Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Birmingham.
Stimson told the club's official website: "You want to give people an opportunity. Leslie has only been in twice but we had to start him as Nicky Southall and Alistair John were out and Dennis Oli was carrying a knock.
"It was hard for Leslie but you have to remember he was playing against quality opposition.
"Michael Burns on the left did okay but you can see that he wants to be in the middle of the pitch rather than the outside.
"The door isn't closed for Michael and Leslie and they are back in with us this week. With the three games this week (against Dover, Aveley and Thurrock), it might help them if we are the better side and have more of the ball as they won't have to play against an international or an ex-Premier League player."
