Bristol City have called off their club-record deal for Emad Meteb after the Egypt striker played for his former club against their wishes. The 25-year-old striker signed a three-year deal with the Robins, completing a £1.5million switch to Ashton Gate from Al Ahly.
However, Meteb turned out for his former club in the Cairo derby against Zamalek against the wishes of his new employees.
Chairman Steve Lansdown told the club's official website: "The Egyptian deal is off. To explain, the player passed his medical and agreed the deal, subject to getting a work permit.
"He couldn't sign officially until the work permit came through so he was allowed back to Egypt to sort that out and wave goodbye to the Al Ahly fans.
"He was clearly informed he could not play in the game against Zamalek and he went against that promise. We had second thoughts."
Meanwhile, the Robins are hopeful of completing the signing of Coventry striker Michael Mifsud on Tuesday, Lansdown adding: "He took his partner around Bristol this weekend and liked what he saw. We expect to seal that deal."

Whoever said that Michael won't give 100% on the pitch then I tell him that he doesn't know jack sh.t about footall nor commitment, remember that game in the fa cup not Coventry won the game but Michael did and as for Mr.Coleman if he does the same job as he did for Fulham than Coventry will go down this coming season and that is a fact, and for Bristol you have an opportunity to sign a true striker don't be stupid and miss out on him,as its in your own interest to sign that player and don't be naive.
