Shrimpers boss ends Clapham pursuit

Mon 28 Jul, 12:15 PM

Southend United manager Steve Tilson has confirmed he will not be pursuing his interest in signing trialist Jamie Clapham.Tilson will turn his attentions elsewhere in filling the gap in defence and a deal for Chelsea youngster Anthony Grant - who should feature in Monday's friendly at Chelmsford - could soon be reached.

"Jamie won't be signing for us. We've decided to look elsewhere for a left-back," Tilson told the club's official website.

Meanwhile, midfielder Alan McCormack is waiting on the results of a scan on his knee injury but is hopeful of returning to action soon.

"If all goes well I might play in the friendly at Wycombe this weekend but I will know more after seeing the specialist," he told the club's official website.

"We're not sure if it's cartilage damage or just some fluid that has leaked onto my knee but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good news."
