Tottenham boss Juande Ramos is set to focus his efforts away from Valencia striker David Villa when he targets a replacement for Robbie Keane.Villa, the 26-year-old Spain international, has been made available this summer but it is understood that Spurs expect the top goalscorer at Euro 2008 to end up at Real Madrid.
Public encouragement from his agent, inviting Spurs to bid last week, was interpreted as an attempt to prompt the Spanish giants into action.
With Keane edging towards a transfer to Liverpool, Ramos is in the market for at least one forward and recently suggested he was not in the race for Espanyol's Luis Garcia.
Zenit St Petersburg have invited Spurs to make an offer of more than £20million for Russia forward Andrei Arshavin, while Roman Pavlyuchenko, his international team-mate and destroyer of England in Moscow last year, has also been mentioned as a possibility.
Two strikers could be required as Dimitar Berbatov could depart - reports may have suggested Manchester United are cooling interest but Spurs are braced for a fresh bid before the end of the transfer window.
Elsewhere, Tottenham want to add Blackburn's David Bentley and have also looked at Sevilla's Diego Capel, both wide players, and they are expected to sign another centre-back.
Heurelho Gomes is looking forward to replacing Paul Robinson as first-choice goalkeeper but Ramos also needs a reserve stopper as Radek Cerny has joined QPR.
Gomes was the hero for PSV Eindhoven when they knocked Spurs out of the UEFA Cup last season, but he told Spurs TV Online: "That is in the past now, I want to be number one keeper next season and give the same commitment that I gave at PSV."
England Under-21 international Ben Alnwick is a possible deputy and Spurs also made an enquiry about IF Elfsborg's Johan Wiland, according to the Swedish goalkeeper's agent at the weekend.

do you see me on every thread out there lordofjapes? only spurs ones for me
i agree roxy i'm getting a bit concerned myself now
He needs to be signing someone fast. What is happening at Spurs. This time last season they had Defoe, Bebatov, Keane and Bent (1 too many imo). Now it looks like they could start this season without ANY of them! and haven't replaced any of them! I'm a bit concerned about their chances, looks like mid-table.
Roxy, is it your dream to comment on every thread?
not looking forward to the start of the season now unless we have a decent front line by then and right now we dont
