Premier League - Countdown: Wolves

Eurosport - Tue, 28 Jul 11:29:00 2009

Eurosport-Yahoo! continues its countdown to the Premier League season with a look at newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Manager: Mick McCarthy

Last 10 seasons in the Premier League (1999/2000 to 2008/2009) : -/-/-/-/20/-/-/-/-/-

POSSIBLE STARTING XI:

Marcus Hahnemann

Kevin Foley - Matthew Hill - Jody Craddock - George Elokobi

Christophe Berra - Nenad Milijas - Michael Kightly - David Edwards

Kevin Doyle - Sylvan Ebanks-Blake

Back-ups from: Greg Halford, Ronald Zubar, Chris Iwelumo, Wayne Hennessey, Neill Collins, Richard Stearman, Karl Henry, Andrew Keogh, Stephen Ward, David Jones, Mark Little, Matthew Jarvis, Sam Vokes, Matt Murray, Daniel Jones, Jason Shackell, George Friend, Carl Ikeme, Ashley Hemmings, Andrew Surman, Darren Potter

POSITIVES: Eighty goals in 46 Championship matches last season tells you Wolves are a team who attack at every opportunity. In Sylvan Ebanks-Blake they boast a striker who has the potential to light up the Premier League and new signing Kevin Doyle could prove the ideal foil.

NEGATIVES: Wolves have brought in some new faces, but it will take time for them to bed in and McCarthy's side cannot afford a bad start. Their all-out attacking style might have worked well in the Championship, but Wolves could be on the end of some hammerings if they adopt a similar approach in the top tier.

VERDICT: An up-and-down season looks on the cards for Wolves, who are sure to entertain the neutrals and cause some big upsets along the way. Ultimately they should have enough quality to avoid the drop, but McCarthy might well need to reinforce his inexperienced squad in the January transfer window.

PREDICTED POSITION: 14TH
