Eto'o sets sights higher

Tue 28 Jul, 12:16 PM

Samuel Eto'o signed a five-year deal with Inter Milan on Monday night before pledging to better his prolific goalscoring record at Barcelona.

The Cameroon international finally put pen to paper with the Series A champions following the protracted 'swap' deal that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirmed as a Barca player just hours before Eto'o's move was completed.

The 28-year-old will be officially unveiled to the media at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon; however, Barca have already revealed the details of the 66million euros deal after their own unveiling of Ibrahimovic, who also signed a five-year contract.

The Catalans have paid 46million euros for the Swede, with the extra 20million made up in the Spanish champions' valuation of Eto'o.

That went most of the way to making up the 70million euros valuation Inter had placed on Ibrahimovic, with the Italians also getting winger Alexander Hleb on a year-long loan.

The Belarus international has shown some reluctance to agree to the deal, but it may end in a permanent move - with Inter having an option to buy the player for 10million euros after his loan deal expires next summer.

Eto'o, however, seems focused on making his mark at the San Siro and has claimed he will score more than the 108 goals in 145 games he netted in five seasons with Barca.

"I promise the fans that I will work every day, as I have always done," Eto'o told the club's official website, www.inter.it.

"This is at the base of everything. I believe in my work and the group. I don't have to say that what I want to do is score even more goals; I know I'm capable of scoring goals and I know that through my work I will score even more.

"I made history at Barcelona, but that history is finished now. A new story begins at Inter, I'm starting from scratch, I want a new adventure and I hope everything goes well."

  2. kruis321, The part you quoted was writen in Apr 07. I've watched about 90% of Barca games this season. I've read most eurosport articles about Barca. There hasn't been a racism problem for Eto'o this year. And even if there is, going to Inter is not an answer. Type in "Balotelli racism" into google and you'd come up on may articles about Juventus and Roma's ultras hurl racist chants and bananas at Inter Milan's Mario Balotelli.

  3. Guardiola will be next to live. Lets wait and see. He meed a team that was already built up and he won all three titles at once. Now he intend to make changes but I quest he starts at the wrong end.

  7. The real reason why Eto'o left Barcelona:
Due to ongoing racism from La Liga crowds, Eto'o no longer brings family members, especially his children, to matches. "It is something that has affected me personally. I think players, leaders, and the media have to join forces so that no one feels looked down upon because of the color of their skin. At this moment in time I prefer my children don't go to football matches. In the stands they have to listen to things that are difficult to explain to a child. It is better they aren't exposed to it" (Wikipedia 28/07/2009).

  9. I am one of your fans and where ever you go I am with you. I am so happy for you and I look forth to see you succeed at Inter. Inter is a great team just as Barca. Guardiola is the most racist football coach that I have ever seen on this planet. His hail days are gone and his dump is at the corner. I never knew Laporta could be so foolish. He did not want to renew Eto'o contract because of financial reasons but yet he prefered to give him away for free and a financial packet that he would have used to improve his contract. You can see how white people pretend to laugh with blacks while starving him behind. How on earth did such a deal start off????????? Guardiola
