Championship - Dickov joins Derby on loan

Eurosport - Fri, 28 Aug 11:36:00 2009

The arrival of Paul Dickov on loan from Leicester has eased Derby manager Nigel Clough's striker crisis ahead of the local derby with Nottingham Forest.

FOOTBALL Paul Dickov - 0

The 36-year-old has joined the Rams until January 1 and goes straight into the squad for the clash with Billy Davies' men.

The Glaswegian has made over 450 appearances and scored 117 goals in his career, which has included stints with Arsenal, Luton, Brighton, Blackburn, Crystal Palace, and Blackpool, not to mention two separate spells with Manchester City.

"Paul is a hugely experienced player and will fit in perfectly with the team spirit we have in the dressing room at the moment," said Rams boss Nigel Clough.

"He knows this division inside out and gives us something different to what we already have at the football club."

Dickov's arrival softens the blow of Steve Davies missing out with a dead leg while Giles Barnes (Achilles), Chris Porter (hip) and Luke Varney (on loan at Sheffield Wednesday) are also absent.

Paul Green is available for selection after shaking off a foot problem while defenders Shaun Barker (thigh) and Dean Leacock (groin and pelvis) stepped up their return to fitness with outings in the opening reserve-team fixture against Shrewsbury on Wednesday night.

  2. To thelestajetsa and the other knockers....that is what they said about Savage. Some managers can inspire pro's and get the best out of them, thus extending their career for several more years.
Cloughie was a skillful ball player, I'm sure that he can spot talent when he sees it.
    Time will tell.

  4. Good,in fact Derby should sign him on a free!!.....Dickov's best days are behind him,he's too slow now, besides weve got better, younger strikers at the club.He was a good player for city in his first spell at the club, but he has done nothing since he came back for his second spell at the club, city should let him go,and get him off the wage bill.

  5. He is definitely been his best. He has fallen right down the pecking order at Leicester. Strikers weve got now in order of likely 1st team start; Matty Fryatt, Steve Howard, Paul Gallagher, Martyn Waghorn, Yann Kermorgant.
But it is a way of him getting some match experience, but he has had a lot of it already nearly 400 games!!!
But still a Leicester Legend none the less. Give him a job like Chris Powell; a Player/Coach.

  6. YOUR MANAGER DOESN'T THINK SO DANNY! THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT DICKOV ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO GET INTO LEICESTER'S STARTING 11 BUT HE'S THE BEST YOU'VE GOT!

  7. We are bound to set the league alight with this signing.... doubt it. If hes not good enough for leicester then he certainly isnt good enough for Derby.
