Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that Ipswich have been given permission to talk to midfielders Carlos Edwards and Grant Leadbitter.
Former Black Cats boss Roy Keane, now in charge at Portman Road, has made a joint bid to recruit the two men after a dreadful start to his side's Coca Cola Championship campaign.
Bruce said: "We have given both players permission to go and speak with Roy. We'll see what develops after that."
Bruce also confirmed that defender Paul McShane has had a medical at Hull, where he spent the first half of last season on loan, with a view to completing a £2million permanent switch to the KC Stadium.
However, he said he was not aware of suggestions that Ipswich were also interested in defender Nyron Nosworthy and striker Daryl Murphy.
In addition, he revealed that his interest in Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh is over, and revealed he has been put off his pursuit of Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin because of the asking price.
On Distin, Bruce said: "There's nothing there. The valuation, in my opinion, is too high for somebody who is nearly 32 years old."

Those two never really play anyway...I say trust Steve Bruce, he hasn't led us astray so far...And if Keane wants these guys, then...
Roy Keane is like gordon brown love to spend money .ipswich will get no where with Roy Big Baby Keane as manger
Ditto , didnt want to se Grant go but he has to do whats best for his career. Edwards is only a championship player and will only be that so get what you can for the two of them . If Whitehead went for £3,ooo,ooo, then these two should go for at lesst £6,000,000.
Steve has a lot of what we can only call championship players on the books, brought in by Roy Keane, we need to sell them on "if anyone wants them!" and use the money to buy some decent Premiership defenders". We seem OK up front with the strikers brought in by Steve.
shame to see leadbitter go, he is a local lad who allways gave is all,and will do for who ever he plays for, thats if he goes, and edwards will do well there as well, he is a championship player and nothing more than that, i expect to see ipswich rise up the table and be there or there abouts come the end of the season...
