Substitute Stevan Jovetic dispatched a 76th-minute winner against lowly Livorno to give his side their third successive Serie A win at Stadio Armando Picchi.
Defender Dario Dainelli was dismissed for a second yellow card six minutes from time but Cesare Prandelli's side clung on to keep a clean-sheet and stay just four points behind leaders Juventus in fifth place.
Fiorentina host Liverpool looking to rebuild in Group E after losing to 1-0 to Lyon at Stade de Gerland after Miralem Pjanic gave the French side victory.

Sevilla (face Rangers at Ibrox on September 29)
Athletic Bilbao 0-4 Sevilla
Manolo Jimenez's side won their fifth successive match in all competitions with a 4-0 drubbing of Athletic Bilbao at Estadio San Mames to arrive in Glasgow in buoyant mood.
Brazilian midfielder Renato gave his side the lead before Alvaro Negredo and Freddy Kanoute gave Sevilla a 3-0 lead at half-time.
Jesus Navas then capped a fine display with the fourth goal before he was taken off, along with Kanoute and Diego Capel as Jimenez looked ahead to his side's trip to Ibrox.
Sevilla beat Unirea Urziceni 2-0 in their opening Group G match at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium courtesy of goals from Brazil forward Fabiano, before Renato set up his compatriot's second.

Olympiakos (face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on September 29)
Olympiakos 1-0 Panionios
Jaouad Zairi netted a 17th-minute winner for Olympiakos as they hosted Panionios at Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki.
New manager Zico was afforded the luxury of withdrawing the goalscorer, along with midfielders Leonardo and Vassilis Torosidis in the second half ahead of the match with Arsenal.
The Greek champions trail Super League leaders Panathinaikos by two points following the win.
Olympiacos beat AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in their opening Champions League match in Group H with Torosidis clinching the winning goal in the 79th minute with a towering header.

Wolfsburg (face Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 30)
Wolfsburg 4-2 Hannover
The German champions plundered four goals at home to Hannover in their 4-2 victory at the Volkswagon Arena to prepare for their visit to Old Trafford in Group B.
Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko (pictured, centre) got on the scoresheet to sink his side's opponents after goals from Zvjezdan Misimovic, Christian Gentner and Makoto Hasebe in an emphatic display.
Coach Armin Veh took the opportunity to withdraw Misimovic, Gentner and Brazilian forward Grafite ahead of the trip to Manchester.
Wolfsburg lead Group B after a 3-1 win over CSKA Moskva, courtesy of a hat-trick from Grafite, and lie sixth in the Bundesliga table.

APOEL Nicosia (face Chelsea at the GSP-Stadion on September 30)
APOEL Nicosia 3-0 Doxa
The Cypriot side followed their goalless draw with Atletico in Group D with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Doxa in the league.
Nicosia move into seventh with their first win in four matches after two draws and a defeat, with Apollon top of the league.
A brace from Adrian Sikora gave his side a comfortable win with the Poland striker hitting good form ahead of the visit of Chelsea, while Konstantinos Charalambidis added the third.
APOEL will be looking to keep a similarly robust defensive line against Carlo Ancelotti's side as they did to keep Diego Forlan and Co at bay.

I disagree. Since the beginning of time, man has engaged in warfare and will need to engage in warfare to survive. This human nature has not changed and will not. In modern day this competitive streak is manifested through sports rather than actual war. I rather this than bloodshed and I think the title sums up human nature pretty well.
"Behind Enemy Lines" is a very silly headline - football is not warfare. Especially with the violence associated with West Ham and Millwall supporters. Be more accurate and less sensational.
And what about Glasgow Rangers, I know it has been stated English teams, but this is a British website, so surely Glasgow Rangers should be mentioned on here??
