Champions League - Bendtner out after car accident

Eurosport - Mon, 28 Sep 15:21:00 2009

Arsenal will be without Nicklas Bendtner for their Champions League game against Olympiakos after the striker was involved in a minor car accident.

"Nicklas did not practice because he had a car accident on Sunday," manager Arsene Wenger said.

"Fortunately there was no real long-term damage, but he was bruised and we thought it better he did not train. He should be back for Sunday's game [against Blackburn]."

England forward Theo Walcott is expected to return from a back problem in time for the weekend, but Denilson is set for up to two months on the sidelines with a fracture to his back.

The talented 21-year-old had started four Premier League matches for the Gunners this season and has scored once.

But the club have now confirmed that the midfielder will be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

The Brazilian picked up the injury in the Gunners' 4-2 defeat at Manchester City and scans have revealed the severity of the problem.

The news of Denilson's injury follow hot on the heels of losing Nicklas Bendtner for the Champions League match against Olympiakos after he was involved in a minor car accident.

Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is still troubled by the chest infection, so Vito Mannone will continue in his place following man-of-the-match display against Fulham.

Samir Nasri (leg), Lukasz Fabianski (knee) and Johan Djourou (knee) remain out.

  7. Why are Arsenal players injury-prone? Wenger should toughen them up. A three month commando training should be arranged during the summer holidays.
