Premier League - Badge-kissing Rooney in clear

Eurosport - Tue, 28 Oct 09:01:00 2008

The Football Association will take no action against Manchester United's Wayne Rooney for his badge-kissing antics at Goodison Park on Saturday.

2008-2009 Manchester United Wayne Rooney kisses the badge - 0

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he substituted Rooney for his own good at the weekend after the striker became increasingly frustrated during United's 1-1 draw with Everton.

Rooney was booked for a foul on Mikel Arteta and, with tempers starting to fray, Ferguson hauled the England man off.

He responded by kissing his badge, a move which clearly could be regarded as inflammatory at his former club.

However, the FA have confirmed they will not be investigating the matter further as referee Alan Wiley saw the incident at the time and had a quiet word with Rooney.

  3. @121, to correct his well-meaning but slightly inaccurate posting.

Everton has been relegated from the top flight of English football twice, in the early 1930s for one year, and in the early 1950s for 3 years. Apart from these 4 years, they have been in the top division since the first season of professional football in 1888. The club has one of the longest and richest histories of any club in world football, and in England is in the top 5 most successful club (in terms of trophies) despite the barren years in the 90s and 2000s (FA Cup 1995 the only exception). Many fans still using acne cream who were barely out of nappies when the EPL started (many of them glory boys jumping on the Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool modern bandwagons) would be completely unaware of the immense stature of the club in the past. Before Man U's domination of the domestic scene starting in the 90's, they had won fewer honours than Everton, and the same is true of Liverpool before their domination of the 70s and 80s. Before Abramovich's cash, Chelsea aren't even worth mentioning - Huddersfield had won the top division more than Chelsea before Abramovich, and even now, they have won the title precisely the same number of times as Huddersfield! So, in the knowledge of this, perhaps some of the younger and less informed fans out there will start to understand why Everton fans have such massive pride in their club and their history, and why we are frustrated that in terms of finances and trophies we have been so lacking in recent times. Man U are probably a permanent fixture at or near the top due to their commercial cash-generating success, but take away Abramovich, and Chelsea will go back to being nobodies again. What goes around comes around, so while Chelsea and other fans of the currently successful clubs may be enjoying taunting other clubs right now, don't get too cocky. As the Everton song goes, "If you know your history....."

  6. Look at Rooneys face! - would you buy a 2nd hand car from this thug. Football needs to take a look at ice-hockey and see how that works - and those are REAL men in the ring and get paid a small fraction of what Rooney and his pansey boys get

  8. Everton dummy spitters again ! Maybe the fans need to focus on how their team can raise their game against the dual champions but turn in dire performances against the bottom clubs and still claim their excessive wages.

  9. I see Formula 1 racing are considering cost cutting measures to make it more competitive giving the smaller teams a chance. How about Football doing the same! The amount of money spent on transfers by the so called big teams is disgusting and also the salaries of the players. Next time you people who go to matches are handing over your hard earned at the turnstile just think about where the moneys going and which over inflated egos pockets you are lining! Do they really deserve it more than you do?

  10. Rooney kisses badge, no action. Joey Barton kisses badge, I wonder? Yes, I know Barton's a duffer but in this particular instance he should be treated the same as Rooney.

  11. Rooney is no different to any other modern day player. He will be loyal to whatever club pays him the most. Loyalty goes no deeper than his bank balance. Perhaps he should have kissed his bank card!

Everton never win anything and will get relegated sooner or later. Still don't worry, Everton fans, you might be able to beat Preston North end. Wouldn't bet on it though - ha ha!

  17. It is quite clear from Wayne Rooney's behaviour that there is a lot of growing up to do on his part. He only shot himself in the foot, trying to wind the crowd up, when in actual fact, he was winding himself up. Manchester United expect to win and this is the sort of schoolboy petulant behaviour they display every time things don't go their way. I think that Wayne Rooney suffers from what I would call Post Traumatic Embitterment Disorder. I wonder what than Coleen is doing with such a loser apart from screwing him and his bank account.

  18. Comment 104 dan catton,
Yep, I shall second what you have typed here. If I am not mistaken, Everton has never been relegated from any 1st Division nor the newly founded Premiership. People are totally ignorant of the fact that Soccer has a far longer and deeper history than just the money making Premiership. And those who don't know this or just ignore the FACT display that they have absolutely no knowledge of not only soccer, but of English History. It would be much simpler for such nobodies and wannabies to shut their undereducated cakeholes.
