Premier League - Badge-kissing Rooney in clear

Eurosport - Tue, 28 Oct 09:01:00 2008

The Football Association will take no action against Manchester United's Wayne Rooney for his badge-kissing antics at Goodison Park on Saturday.

2008-2009 Manchester United Wayne Rooney kisses the badge - 0

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he substituted Rooney for his own good at the weekend after the striker became increasingly frustrated during United's 1-1 draw with Everton.

Rooney was booked for a foul on Mikel Arteta and, with tempers starting to fray, Ferguson hauled the England man off.

He responded by kissing his badge, a move which clearly could be regarded as inflammatory at his former club.

However, the FA have confirmed they will not be investigating the matter further as referee Alan Wiley saw the incident at the time and had a quiet word with Rooney.

  1. Thiswhole episode just highlights the bitterness of the Everton followers. Listen to the phone ins to radio stations after any game. They are such a shower of whingers. I'm ashamed I live in the Same city.

  3. To dan catton: How many times has rooney scored against Everton since he left? I think he has more over everton then the other way round. Oh, & speaking of history for another person with their comment, Everton WERE a big club when the term did not exist! Man Utd did play in the 2nd tier for a short while (ironically, it was Denis Law's goals that relegated them). BUT b4 that, during that & after that they always remained a big club (not always a winning club but BIG club). Everton are stil a reasonably big club but each season they grow smaller unless they break into the top 4 consistently - FACT.

To paultopg - "As usual, man utd players get away with it" Get away with what? Kissing his badge in the middle of the pitch? Goalscorers do it all the time. BTW Rooney has been sent of for sarcastically applauding a ref in the past whereas Ashley cole & a few others at other big clubs have gotten away with real disrespect of referees. No one seems to mention them here. Utd Haters, anyone!?

  9. dunno what the big deal is... if players have 'the right' as the FA put it to boo players, i don't see the wrongness in kissing of badge. Not a fan of badge kissing now, but rooney's timing was great!

  15. To comment 87 - Non:

Comments such as "man united are a big club. everton will never be a big club" just display your complete ignorance of English football history. You make it quite clear that you don't have a clue.

It doesn't matter who you support: if you don't know that Everton have played more top flight football than any other club in England, then you're plain ignorant. Man Utd are a big club now but lots of us can remember when they played in the Second Division. Not just not a big club, they weren't even a top flight club!

Face it: the Everton fans may not have covered themselves in glory but they wound Rooney up so much that he had to be subbed - and Man Utd drew a game they'd have expected to win. If it costs them the title then Rooney will be to blame and the Everton fans will have scored a point over him he'll never win back.

To "sane footy fan" (a misnomer if ever there was one):

Rooney stood in front of a whole load of people who support the club he used to support. He deliberately tried to wind them up. They deliberately wound him up. None of them got in any trouble. He had to substituted to prevent him getting sent off. They won; he lost.

This has nothing to do with jealousy. He made a prat of himself. Worse still, he made a prat of himself by trying to wind up other people but ending up being the one to lose his rag. If he understood irony, he'd be even more ashamed of himself now.

You may not care about what fans of other clubs think but Rooney clearly does - otherwise, why would he try to wind up the fans of a club he no longer plays for? But you wouldn't know that, would you? Because you weren't at the match, were you? You're all talk and no trousers!

  20. This is disgusting, as usual the FA are in Manchester Utd's pockets.
ANYONE ELSE AND THEY WOULD BE FINED (NO RESPECT FOR CLUBS OUT OF THE TOP 4), WHAT HAPPEND TO THE RESPECT CAMPAIGN (IT WORKS BOTH WAYS)

If David Moyes Stood Up 2 The Bullying FA He Would Have Got Fined

THIS IS NOT FOOTBALL, IT'S A JOKE
