Carling Cup - Managers: Fergie agrees with ref

Eurosport - Wed, 28 Oct 09:25:00 2009

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson had no complaints about referee Chris Foy sending off Gary Neville during the 2-0 Carling Cup win at Barnsley.

2009-10 Carling Cup referee Chris Foy sends off Gary Neville - 0

Barnsley 0-2 Manchester United

Mark Robins: "I'm disappointed. We must have had between 15 and 17 efforts on goal, but when you don't take one of them you don't deserve to win the game. I think we paid them too much respect at the start of the game, we were lacking a bit of belief at times. But not many teams will create that many chances against Man United."

Alex Ferguson: "(On Gary Neville's sending off): "He followed through, in the current climate you can see why it's given. Barnsley worked very hard and put in a lot of effort and they had one or two chances after we went down to 10 men. But overall I think we deserved to win the game and I'm delighted with the response from the players. We didn't play as well as we could have, but we are through and happy with that."

Portsmouth 4-0 Stoke City

Paul Hart: "We've been threatening for a while to hurt somebody and the players got the reward for their performance and the chances they created. Obviously we need to take a little bit of that into our league performances. The players were determined to put a performance in. I was pleased to secure the clean sheet again. The more of those we rack up the better chance we have of winning matches."

Tony Pulis: "The four we conceded were very poor goals to give away and were typified by Glenn Whelan falling over the ball for their fourth. When we got in Pompey's final third there were at least five occasions where our final ball was absolutely shocking. If we'd picked people out we'd have had great opportunities ourselves. Between both boxes we did okay, but games are won or lost in the final third. We weren't good enough at both ends."

Sunderland 0-0 Aston Villa (Villa win 3-1 on penalties)

Steve Bruce: "We had more chances than them but it wasn't our night. We have a lot of disappointed people. But I thought our overall performance was excellent and in my opinion we deserved to go through. Their keeper had one of those nights he will remember for the rest of his career. We had chances, the penalty, and Kieran (Richardson) had an opportunity in the final minute but we weren't able to take them."

Martin O'Neill: The lads are pretty euphoric, none more so than Mr Guzan. He gave a fantastic performance and we are naturally delighted to have got through. He has been doing it for some time, I think he is a great keeper in the making. He has got everything and he is as brave as they come. He was immense in pre-season and that performance will elevate his confidence to new heights. You got the feeling that it would have to have been something special to beat him."

Blackburn Rovers 5-2 Peterborough United

Rovers assistant manager Neil McDonald: "We played some really good stuff all throughout the game and long may that continue. It got tight at one stage but when we got in front we started to pass the ball with purpose and create chances. Our home form has been fantastic and we are scoring for fun, it's nice to see lots of people getting goals."

Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Everton

Harry Redknapp: "(David Bentley)'s got to play like that and put that effort in. Aaron (Lennon) has played so well, he's not had the opportunity. His attitude was not as good in training as it could be and I spoke to him about that. He accepts that and is determined to put that right."

David Moyes: The Everton manager refused to speak to the media in protest against having to play the match on a Tuesday - their third match in six days.

  4. What a load of drivel on this site. I think SAF is a good role model, it goes to show you that what he has achieved through the years because of his arrogance and dedication is awesome. I bet you wish he was your manager. Lets see what have you all won since he has been in charge of MUFC. Don't get me wrong, what he has done in the last few months in little short of idiotic, but look at what he has done for the game over the last 40 years, not just at MUFC but Aberdeen as well.

  7. Ferguson is good at wat he does but I wouldn't teach my kids to look up to him as a role model. He is a sore looser like most football managers but he seem to take it too far sometimes. Where does he get off insulting other professionals because he doesn't agree with their decisions. He does not show wisdom he shows arrogance. Anyway there are far more deserving people in the world who have earned the respect of their peers that young people can look up as role models.
