Jimmy White's bid to secure a place at the Masters came unstuck against David Gray who triumphed 5-4 in the third round of qualifying.

Gray (pictured) and White know each other well as they are regular practice partners and it proved to be a nail-biter in Prestatyn.

There was never more than a frame between the pair and a century break in frame eight saw White force a decider, but his hopes of progression were dashed as a break of 74 took Gray into the quarter-finals of qualifying.

Matthew Stevens got the better of James Wattana 5-3, while Anthony Hamilton was impressive in seeing off Joe Jogia.

The quarter-finals take place later on Wednesday.
