Manchester United are closing in on a bumper £50 million double swoop for Valencia pair David Villa and David Silva.
It was one of the most laboured transfer rumours of the summer, when United and a host of other clubs were reportedly in for the talented duo, but with Valencia still strapped for cash, the speculation has reared its head once again.
United have been struggling for attacking flair since selling Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and have just three established strikers on their books - Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen.
Valencia have admitted they may be forced to sell Villa, but could also cash in on Silva at the same time. (Daily Mirror)
Portsmouth have been hit by a transfer ban by the Premier League as a result of their debts to other English clubs. It will remain in place until those debts are paid in full. (Daily Mirror)
In other news, Italian giants Juventus are plotting a £6m swoop for Manchester City full-back Pablo Zabaleta once the transfer window re-opens in the New Year.
The Argentine defender has been out in the cold after seeing Micah Richards re-established as first-choice right-back at Eastlands, prompting interest from the Old Lady. (The Sun)
Bolton and Celtic are eyeing up FC Utrecht's young Holland striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel who, if he is anything like as good as his name, will be well worth the £1.5m his club are asking. (The Sun)
Leicester have issued a 24-hour deadline to free agent Edgar Davids as the 36-year-old Dutchman decides whether to prolong his career at the Walkers Stadium. (Daily Express)
Liverpool are tracking 20-year-old Sampdoria midfielder Vladimir Koman, who is currently on loan with Bari. The goalscoring playmaker would set Rafa Benitez back around £4m. (Daily Mirror)
West Brom have agreed to sell flop Borja Valero back to Real Mallorca for £3.7m. The midfielder is currently on loan at the Liga club but can make the move permanent in January. (Daily Mirror)
And finally, Hull City have been warned by their accountants that their uncertain financial position is threatening the club's ability to continue as a going concern. (The Guardian)

Sick English media...........sick writers.......sick website
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
MU needs a GK, a CB, a RB, a CDM, a LW and a ST for the next season! :)
gary j is a niemand.
as if siva and villa will want to go to united, they are finished as a big team! they couldn't even keep ronaldo there. they would be better off at arsenal or city! both these teams are going to be big next season! i would say to them stay in spain instead of leaving 1 broken team for another
SO then, anymore thoughts on these possible transfers...
Do you think Man Utd need them?
Yes(thumbs up)
No(thumbs down)
How has a topic about transfers became about Hillsborough? Do you honestly believe that the fans would of continued to go into that pen if they knew people were getting crushed? Surely that is for the authourities to police. The people leaving derogratary comments obviously don't know the whole facts or are callous cold hearted individuals. You decide which you are Gary J?
Gary J why are you so focussed on heaping the entire blame on liverpool fans? yes there were fans who pushed the pile and caused this tragedy to happen, but the police and stadium officials should have redirected those queing fans onto the other terraces. get off of your high horse and stop using this horrible tragedy to insult liverpool football club, its fans and the city itself, do not forget that 96 people lost their lives that day, stop disgracing them. show some respect. Liverpool fan.
David Silver and Villa are what United need to refurbish the team now.
Welcome to the debate Trevor, stupid thoughts, really? so you emphatically disagree with the argument that people in that queue were pushing? What was forcing those people at the front against the gates then? some invisible, mystical force perhaps? I'm not saying those 96 people deserved to die, what I am saying is you all need to look a little closer to home if you want someone to blame, because whatever you or anyone else says, that tragedy was caused by Liverpool supporters & no one else, & nobody can convince me otherwise.
gary j,your a right twa t,do you actually know what your talking about?my cousin lost his life on that horrendous day.keep your stupid thoughts to yourself.
Hang on........................................another one has just come crawling out of the woodwork. This time its J from Liverpool. Why am I a t**t J?? give us your one sided wisdom, perhaps you were one of the idiots who helped cause the stampede which resulted in the death of almost 100 of your 'friends' or perhaps, like the other people who can't see the wood for the trees, you feel a sense of guilt, a great burden carried for over 20 years, knowing that one of the worst tragedies in sport was caused by your own fans, & you, like the majority of Liverpool, can't handle that, & look for others to heap blame upon. Perhaps it was my fault? as, I was in Birmingham at the time, so perhaps, if I hadn't have been there, it wouldn't have happened!
Can't believe comment 82. Hillsborough was a tragedy that ranked with the Munich Air disaster. The only difference being that one involved the players and one involved the fans. Sick of this stupid arguing about police mistakes and whether the gates should have been opened or closed. These facts may all have had a bearing but it cannot alter the grief felt by the families. People died and we should all pay respect to this fact no matter your team colours. I will always respect the two minutes silence on matches played on these dates as I do for our military fallen on Remembrance Sunday. Man. U supporter.
Gary J your a t wat.
comment 60. Wenger is a good manager without doubt. I like his attitude in buying cheap and bringing on young players. Arsenal remain a good team but to state that he is the best manager in the history of the game is ridiculous. He has a long way to go to acheive the success of managers like Jock Stein, Bill Shankly, Alec Fergusson, Matt Busby etc. These were the best managers ever in the game and all were British.
So, jndyball, my comments are misguided, insensitive and inappropriate, & not welcome here. Is that because the truth hurts? My comments will be welcomed by the impartial & the many people who agree with me, because it needs to be said. There is an old adage, 'The truth is free, yet we buy the lies' & this is certainly appropriate in this debate.
COMMENT 95. actually, the only disrespect shown to the families of the 96 dead, was shown by the idiots who caused the stampede & murdered those people in the first place!
gary j - what a cretin you are.your comments are misguided, insensitive and inappropriate.show some respect and keep it shut.your views are not welcome.
