Tennis Spy takes a look at Bulgarian hope Tsvetana Pironkova, who is back in the top 100 after a disappointing year so far.
Full name: Tsvetana Pironkova
Nationality: Bulgarian (born in Plovdiv)
Age: 22 (DOB September 13, 1987)
Career Highlights: Winner of six ITF events in Greece, Turkey, Italy and France, including three during 2003. Made her debut on the WTA tour at the age of 17 in 2005 and made a name for herself by beating Venus Williams in first round of 2006 Australian Open. Reached singles ranking of 62 in November of the same year. Went on to beat top seed and world number three Ana Ivanovic at Rome Masters in 2008 before reaching quarter-finals, and ended year with ranking of 42. Broke into top 50 in 2008 following that run in Rome and semi-final appearance in Istanbul. Reached number 40 after Roland Garros in the same year. Currently number 99 in the latest WTA rankings.
General: Built on her early promise with a tremendous year in 2008. Fell away slightly earlier this year with first-round defeats at both French Open and Wimbledon, slipping out of the top 100. But looks to be approaching some kind of form after reaching quarter-finals in Moscow with victory over top seed Vera Zvonareva. Still has potential to break into the top 20.
Personal: Coached by her father Kiril Enchev, a former canoe champion. Her mother is a former swimming champion. Has one brother, Encho who sometimes coaches her, and one sister, Elisaveta. Enjoys swimming, canoeing and listening to Bulgarian music.

As I've said in free-online verse, females should play TABLE tennis, which puts far less stress on the racket/bat arm.
