Stoke boss Tony Pulis was disappointed by the efforts of his much-changed side as they crashed to a 4-0 Carling Cup defeat at the hands of Portsmouth.
The Potters boss made 10 changes to the side that earned a shock victory against Tottenham at the weekend and saw his side well beaten at Fratton Park.
"The four we conceded were very poor goals to give away and were typified by Glenn Whelan falling over the ball for their fourth," said Pulis.
"When we got in Pompey's final third there were at least five occasions where our final ball was absolutely shocking. If we'd picked people out we'd have had great opportunities ourselves.
"Between both boxes we did okay, but games are won or lost in the final third. We weren't good enough at both ends.
"I was expecting us to have a go at Portsmouth and I'm disappointed we didn't. But those 10 players haven't played together much this season so you can't expect them to go out and put in a great performance."

As Stoke are destined for a top four place ,it's only right we put out a team with 10 changes from our Premiership starting 11......
( tongue firmly in cheek !!! )
We made a hell of a lot of changes from Saturday ,but no excuses this was not a particularly weak Stoke team,I expected better of players looking to break into the 1st team
Anybody else would have been out to win this game purely for confidence sake, when we play Portsmouth in the league who will be the most confident?
