Edwards to miss Valencia
Colin Edwards will miss the final Moto GP of the season in Valencia as he recovers from injuries sustained in the tragic accident that claimed the life of popular Italian rider Marco Simoncelli in Sepang last weekend.
Edwards and Valentino Rossi struck Simoncelli as he crashed in their path on lap two at Sepang and the 37-year-old required surgery on a left arm injury.
The American has multiple small fractures to the top of his left humerus bone, which connects the shoulder to the elbow, and has damage to the cartilage around the tip of the humerus bone, which will require surgery next Tuesday.
The race was set to be Edwards' final appearance for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team.
Edwards, who also suffered severe bruising and swelling to both wrists and right heel in the accident, said: "I want to thank everybody for all their messages of support since Sunday. The support and love has been overwhelming and it has been a great comfort to me at this difficult time.
"My heart goes out to the family and friends of Marco and I will miss him a lot, as will the entire MotoGP family. I watched Marco's funeral yesterday and I really wish I could have been there. I wanted to go but unfortunately my injuries meant I was unable to travel.
"I know Valentino spoke to Marco's family on my behalf and I thank him for that. It was a great service and a fitting celebration of his life. I also wanted to be in Valencia next week to give my support to MotoGP, but it is not going to be possible because of the surgery I need on my left arm.
"The top of my left humerus bone has got multiple small fractures but the cartilage that is around the top of the bone has been pulled off. The surgery will anchor the cartilage back to the bone but there is no nerve damage, so I should be 100 per cent in about four weeks."

2011 was full of disasters, many bad things happened around the globe, we lost Marco and Dan. sad sad year. I hope 2012 will be a better year. But we are lucky to have likes or Colin and Valentino with their big hearts, without them the sport would be so dull. Lets once again remember Marco Simoncelli and Dan Wheldon, may god rest their souls.
Get well soon and get back on your bike and Rossi as well,/ do what you do best and thats RACING life must go on you,s all know the risks
Colin's one of the nicest guys in racing, hope he gets well soon. Wish he'd get back to WSB and kick some butt.

Colin, do what you need to do, get well and take all the time you need. I know that you wish you were at the final race, but also know that you and angel Marco will be there. Marco's memory will live on with all of us and all of the MotoGP family. God bless
One of the most respected and honest men in the MotoGP family, I really hope that this injury does not bring a premature end to his amazing career and that he fully recovers.
Grid won't be the same without Mr. Edwards even though some people think he should retire to make way for 'Younger' riders - Colin always has given 100% and is still as fast as most and faster than some much younger than himself.
colin wishing you a speedy recovery and all the best for the future be safe ;)
Colin just take your time. You are a great rider and beautiful person. Time buddy time.
Colin such a star, get well soon buddy, looking forward to seeing you race again next year.

Vale has several more years in him yet i am sure :) xx
Colin, get yourself healthy both physically and mentally and I hope to see you on the track next year. God bless you, the whole MotoGP family and Marco's loved ones. Tragic a loss of a great of a young man, RIP Marco.
As ever, honest and sincere words from Colin Edwards. Such a shame it is from such a tragic event. RIP Marco.
Get well Colin, hopefully see you next year.
Does anyone know anything about the also-injured Loris Capirossi, will he be able to compete in what would be his last-ever MotoGP race?
Miss you Colin, hope you get back racing very soon
Hang in there Colin. Get well soon, and get back on the track, we all want that and so would Marco.
Totally tragic, no point looking for positives, because there really aren't any
Just hope that both Colin and Vale can have some high moments before the end of their careers, so that this accident will not be a defining one for them.
Still hasnt sunk in really, keep checking eurosport to see whether ive misread the article and that Marco is still lying in hospital.. =( its not going to happen unfortunately though
