Brewster aware of Nish threat

Fri 28 Dec, 09:01 AM

Inverness player-boss Craig Brewster admits he is impressed with how Kilmarnock's Colin Nish has come on since being a teenager at Dunfermline.Kilmarnock travel to the Highland capital in the Premier League on Saturday and Brewster has identified Nish as the Ayrshire club's main threat.

With seven goals so far this season Nish is Kilmarnock's top scorer and he is currently in good form having found the net in the 2-1 victory over Hibernian on Boxing Day.

Nish struggled to establish himself at Dunfermline, where Brewster and Steve Crawford formed a formidable partnership, and the Edinburgh native went out on loan to Alloa and Clyde in search of regular football.

But since the 26-year-old moved to Kilmarnock in 2003 he has continued to grow in stature and Nish has clearly made an impression with Brewster.

He said: "I was at Dunfermline with Colin and he was a good talent then, but now he has more experience and he is a real handful for defenders to try and cope with.

"We know we are going to have to be wary of him as he has the ability to score goals, but then it is up to us to cause them problems as well.

"Colin was still quite young when we were both at Dunfermline together and at the time myself and Steve Crawford were doing really well up front so he never really got the opportunity to play that often.

"But all credit to Colin because he has gone to Kilmarnock and become a big player for them, although we know he is not the only player they have who is a threat."

Brewster is hoping his own top scorer will be fit to feature in his squad at the weekend.

Dennis Wyness - who like Nish has found the net seven times this term - has been out for a month with a hamstring injury, but Brewster believes the forward is not far from full fitness.

He added: "I'd say Dennis is at about 90% now and he continues to get better with each training session."

Meanwhile Nish believes Kilmarnock can continue their mini-revival at Inverness.

After going 13 league games with only one win before the visit of Hibs, Killie will be looking to stretch their unbeaten run to four games.

Nish said: "I was happy with my form against Hibs. I've been playing well away from home and not so good at home but hopefully I can kick on after the game against Hibs.

"We said before the game that if we could take anything from it then it would be three games unbeaten but we got all three points, which is five out of nine.

"If we can get three points on Saturday we would be climbing up the table to where we should be."
