Leicester and the MK Dons cemented their places at the top of the League One, while Leeds returned to winning ways at Stockport.

Leaders Leicester City had to hold on for a 2-1 victory at home against strugglers Hereford United.

It looked comfortable for the Foxes when Andy King scored after 71 minutes. Steve Howard had given them an early lead in the 10th minute.

But Karl Broadhurst's strike with 10 minutes remaining meant a nervy end to the game.

Second-place MK Dons ran out 2-0 winners at home to mid-table Southend United. Sean O'Hanlon (eight) and Sam Baldock (58) scored the vital goals in a game which saw three players on each side booked.

Millwall lost ground to the top two, dropping points in a 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town.

The south London side took the lead in the fourth minute through Paul Robinson, but the visitors pulled it level in the 38th minute thanks to Luke Rodgers.

It was a goal-fest at Whaddon Road between Cheltenham Town and Peterborough United. The Posh ran out 6-3 winners - eight of the goals coming in the second half.

George Boyd (three) opened the scoring, but Ashley Vincent equalised for the home side with a penalty just three minutes into the second half.

Charlie Lee put the visitors ahead again on the hour mark and Craig Mackail-Smith (63) increased the lead.

Elvis Hammond (67) pulled one back but Peterborough regained their two-goal advantage through an Alan Wright own goal in the 76th minute.

Substitute Lloyd Owusu (86) gave the home side hope, but Aaron Mclean (87) and Chris Whelpdale deep in to injury time gave the visitors a thrilling victory - and the hosts were reduced to 10 men in injury-time when Barry Hayles was sent off for violent conduct.

Leeds United claimed their first three points under new boss Simon Grayson with a 3-1 victory at fellow play-off contenders Stockport County.

The West Yorkshire side fell behind after just three minutes, Johnny Mullins grabbing the goal.

But Luciano Becchio (19), Fabian Delph (73) and Malcolm Christie (86) gave Leeds a deserved victory.

Scunthorpe United suffered a 2-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town.

Jim Goodwin (65) and an injury-time goal from Gary Roberts gave the Terriers the victory which keeps their play-off hopes alive.

A Steven Gillespie penalty after 39 minutes gave Colchester United a 1-0 win over visitors Leyton Orient, who remain in the relegation zone. The visitors could have salvaged a point but Adam Boyd saw his second half penalty saved.

It was a bad-tempered match at the Colchester Community Stadium which saw nine yellow cards and a sending off for Sean Thornton for a second bookable offence.

The shock of the day in League One came at Hartlepool United, who were soundly beaten 4-1 by basement club Crewe Alexandra.

John Brayford put the visitors ahead just after the break before Joel Porter (48) equalised.

An own goal by Michael Nelson in the 57th minute restored the visitors' lead and further goals from Luke Murphy and Shaun Miller gave them a comfortable victory.

Brighton and Hove Albion moved out of the relegation zone thanks to a Nicky Forster double at Danny Wilson's Swindon Town .

The veteran striker got his first on 43 minutes and he doubled his side's advantage with a penalty after 52 minutes following Michael Timlin's foul on Stuart Fleetwood.

An injury-time goal from Antony Kay gave Tranmere Rovers victory against Walsall. Ian Goodison gave the home side the lead in the 43 minutes, before Marco Reich's penalty gave the visitors what looked to be a share of the points.

But Kay slotted home Ian Moore's cross in the dying seconds for a remarkable victory.

Northampton Town and Bristol Rovers fought out a goalless draw, as did Oldham and Carlisle.
