Samaras Ready To Join 'Gers

Tue 29 Jan, 08:09 AM

Georgios Samaras says he's ready to join Rangers on loan to earn himself a Euro 2008 spot.

The Greek international joined Manchester City for £6million from Dutch club Heerenveen in January 2006.

But since the arrival of new boss Sven-Goran Eriksson in the summer he's been surplus to requirements, making just two Premier League starts this term.

Now he wants a January move away from Eastlands in a bid to boost his hopes of leading his country's attack at the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland.

Samaras denies he's already had talks with Rangers, or that a fee of £2.75million has been agreed. And he says he'll only move to the SPL in a short-term loan deal.

He told the Daily Record: "At this moment I need to find somewhere to play football. I have the European Championship this summer and I need to play games before then.

"I would be happy to go to Scotland. I would not have any problem with leaving the Premiership - playing football is the main thing for me.

"I would have the chance of European football with Rangers and that is also very interesting. But it would be a loan. I'm not looking for a full-time move."

Rangers could face competition if they do try to sign Samaras, with some English papers claiming on Tuesday that their Old Firm rivals Celtic are also interested.
