HOW IT WORKS

We tot up the marks out of 10 awarded in five national newspapers - The Sun, The Mirror, The Mail, The Times and The Guardian (or at least those that bothered with the midweek games) - to create a total out of 50. The top player in each position will be rewarded with a spot in the team of the week, while the worst scorers will be named and shamed in our Flops XI.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Who the devil is Matt Duke? He's Hull's reserve goalkeeper and he made his Premier League debut against West Ham on Wednesday night. And what a debut. Even though Hull lost, he saved a penalty and bagged himself a spot in team of the week.

There is a five-way tie for player of the week - partly a product of most newspapers being too idle to award marks for midweek games, but the unofficial crown goes to Luka Modric for briefly making us think it was Euro 2008 all over again. No doubt normal service will be resumed at the weekend.

Poor old Paul Robinson. He was sent off unfairly in West Bromwich Albion's game against Manchester United and has consequently got rubbish scores. Seems a bit harsh, but those are the rules - he's our flop of the week.

The three-club tyranny of West Brom, Stoke and Newcastle is broken only by Geovanni of Hull and the surprisingly rubbish Florent Malouda of Chelsea. Oh, and Pele is one of the worst players in the Premier League. Fact.

Heurelho Gomes looks like he has found a way to get out of the team - get yourself dropped and become ineligible. Canny thinking from the big Brazilian.

And Spurs have accumulated yet another stiff in the form of Pascal Chimbonda. Make that four Tottenham players in the flops of the season.

  11. Most of the west Brom teams in the Flops of the week.They should get credit as Robinson should not have been sent off.They only conceded 4 after he went off te field.Against a very strong Manchester United Team who had Berbatov,Tevez,Ronaldo and Vidic fit.
