Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen did not suffer a broken leg during the Gunners' goalless draw at Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old, who has made a huge impact at the Emirates after his move from Ajax last year, limped off after 35 minutes.
But the Belgium international still may miss Arsenal's Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday.
"There is no fracture in Thomas' leg but his injury still has to be assessed. There is still a good chance he will not play on Sunday," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.
Vermaelen scored on his league debut for Arsenal in the season-opening 6-1 win at Everton and has netted six goals in 31 appearances for the club.
Eduardo will also miss Sunday's match after picking up a hamstring injury at Villa Park but could be back next weekend for the trip to Chelsea.
But Wenger has added Emmanuel Eboue and Alex Song to his squad after they returned from the African Cup of Nations.

gunnerman&boy ... Do world class coaches not win trophies sometimes? I think they do!
Like I said, I hope Arsene is proved a genius but expect he will be proved a fool. Have Arsenal ever been foundering finacially pre-Wenger? I cannot remember they ever were?
I think we both love Arsenal but you still trust in Wenger 100% as I used to a few seasons ago. Now I think he is losing the plot a little. This difference of opinion is a lot wider than just you and me. Lots of Gooners are in both camps. I hope you are right and I am wrong as you being right would mean Arsenal succeed.
Habenero i wonder why Peter Hill wood never offered you the job of coach ! Oh no he opted for one of the best in the world thats right,Like me he is more intent on maintaining our envious record of never being out of the TOP division and being a world renown club that is fluid in cash and assets,But care little about silly Tin Trinkets,so that so called fans can puff there chest out and say look at US [When you mean the team] look we won the cup or the leauge Oh and yes we wont be here in 2011 as the manager has spent all the money on Toss pot players who are over paid over valued and now like all scum coming to the surface.!Quote Robinho[should be robin barsteward]Adeybayour lazy feckless mooron, and a few others who so called fans say the Guvnor should buy what for Just to put money in there pockets cos sure as eggs are eggs matey they would not fit in if thet demand big bucks .Nurture the present and reap the future pal.
well I wished he would be fit to play against rooney. it would have been a classic showdown between the best attacker right now in england a very good defender. i wish him speedy recovery though against chesea. And for the shankallay guy that wished for rooney and Lampard getting injuries i have this to say to u keep your lame and stupid opinions in your head and never call yourself an english fan again. thank you
MAN UTD 3 ARSENAL 1
rooney 23mins. 40mins fabregas 27mins
nani 78mins
MANCHESTER UNITED 4 LIFE..................................
Hope everything is ok. and Vermaleen can resume his partnership with Gallas. I think they are still getting better . Though AW needs to give both breaks when he can, this is not the time for it.
Arsenal need Vermaelan but I think Gallas will do the job!
Whatever your tribal instincts are, this is great news that his leg was not broken. Who would wish otherwise?
The guy has added to the premiereship and given greater value for those that pay to watch it.
Vermaelan ease his injury, good news. Song is back in the squad which is vital to fight for Manutd game.
i really like to see Rooney , Lampard & Drogba to get very long term injuries to keep out of playing even though i'm England fan. Gunners will be the champion of premier league.
come on the gunners
#77 Eduardo is going threw a rough spell, he can be a perfectly fine replacement once he gets back to his original form, if he does that i dare say he is better than RVP.
Ref: Habanero,
Usually I do not take kindly to such words against the Gunners but I have cracked my ribs laughing and still haven't stopped.
Ref: Fetch - You cannot borrow Stamford's brain, he needs it to pretend he's got a brain.
The positives?
1) Huge sigh of relief that Vermaelen's injury is not as bad as first thought.
2) Song is back. One of our key players.
3) We have the magic of Cesc Fabregas and Andrei Arshavin.
4) We are relatively solvent and have a comfy stadium.
The negatives?
1) Our only world class striker (RvP) is out for the season and Wenger won't buy.
2) Bendtner, Eduardo and especially Walcott are really not the greatest of replacments.
3) We have a mid-table quality erratic first choice keeper. Mannone needs his chance as Wenger won't buy!
Season not looking good as Arsene does not see any negatives and has thrown our chance both cups to win the CL and EPL. We will know in about 4 weeks whether he is a genius or a fool. I hope genius, I expect fool.

Arsenal players get injured more than a stuntman in a 3rd world country movie. They are conditioned with focus on speed not strength and that cannot work. The last 4 years Arsenal started with injured players and finished with injured players.. It is not a matter of bad luck. It is the wrong conditioning..
Mark Stamford.
May I borrow your brain please?
I'm building an idiot!
Eurosport is @#$%, i guess its alex ferguson's site!
good news about vermaleen
GREAT NEWS REGARDS THOS. VERMAELEN. NOT A BROKEN LEG AS SUSPECTED, JUST A SEVERE BRUISING. MIND YOU, FERDINAND GETTING BAND HAS STOPPED CAMPBELL FROM GETTING A SEVERE BRUISING TOO,. I DON'T THINK SOL HAS GOT THE WHERE-WITH-ALL TO COPE WITH WORLD CLASS ATTACKERS FROM THE LIKE OF MAN UTD CHELSEA LIVERPOOL (YES LIVERPOOL) AND DARE I SAY IT TOTTENHAM. CLICHEY IS NOT SO HOT THESE DAYS GALLAS CANNOT DO IT ALL ON HIS OWN, AND SONG RETURNING FROM THE A.C. OF N. COULDN'T HAPPEN SOONER. GOOD LUCK GUNNERS.
