Ito had been waiting all season to pick up a victory until his win on Saturday but he was back on the top step of the podium less than 24 hours later to delight the Japanese fans.

Poland's Kamil Stoch had led after the first round of competition with a jump of 131.5m and replicated his effort in the second round.

Ito only jumped 127.5m in the first round but then produced a monster effort of 137m and his points total of 243.7 was enough to beat Stoch's effort of 241.6.

Austria's Andreas Kofler took the bronze with a total of 241.3 points with the Czech Republic's Roman Koudelka a distant fourth.

Kofler leads the over World Cup standings ahead of Norway's Anders Bardal and Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer.

The competition returns to Europe next week with the jumpers in Val di Fiemme, Italy.
