Everton have been in touch with Rangers regarding Nikica Jelavic but Press Association Sport understands that no official bid has yet been made.
The Clydesdale Bank Premier League champions have already rejected a £7million package from West Ham for the 26-year-old Croatia striker, who missed Saturday's 4-0 win over Hibernian at Ibrox with a virus.
Everton boss David Moyes made his move for Jelavic after Diniyar Bilyaletdinov completed his transfer to Spartak Moscow for an undisclosed fee, but one which has been reported as £5million.
The Ibrox club are bracing themselves for the Merseysiders to make an official offer later on Sunday night or on Monday morning for a player who also been linked with Liverpool and QPR.
However, it is understood that Ibrox owner Craig Whyte is determined not to let Jelavic leave for anything less than his valuation of the player, thought to be £8million-plus, and will be more than happy to still have the player at the club on Wednesday morning.
The Ibrox club are confident that manager Ally McCoist will have at least one new player in his squad before the transfer window closes on Tuesday. McCoist had expressed interest in signing Pawel Brozek from Turkish club Trabzonspor but the Polish striker has agreed terms with Old Firm rivals Celtic and will join on loan until the end of the season subject to a medical.

Any eejit can google graeme!
What was the 'undisclosed agreement that Rangers reached?
There's nothing to suggest that any money changed hands, only that an agreement had been reached, and we all know Rangers track record in breaking agreements.
Just for you though, a statement made a couple of years ago saw Rangers pay £9 million in 'historical debt' which accounted for 'most' of the debt. Go check on what debt was outstanding, you're a dab hand with Google, it should be a dawdle for you!
ortiz how can you thumb lys doon fur that shame on you hahahahaha one of the worst players i have seen
in a gers strip ally did try time and again but sorry he got his chance i dont like slaggin a gers player
but USELESS,CLUELESS NEED I GO ON ?
Lysdexic more pish from you I see, Rangers stopped playing Ball (so to speak) when he got close to a certain number of appearances as it would trigger a further 500k payment and an undisclosed settlement between the two allowed Ball to continue his career at Ibrox.
Don't let facts affect your bleating tho ... it is hilarious to read the pish you type!
CHAMPIONS!
And the hits just keep coming; apparently Rangers still owe Everton for Michael Ball... oh dear!
More bad news for ra peepel though, apparently there was interest in Clubfoot, but the player says he's going nowhere, he's a real 'gers man, loyal and true!
No luck eh!
Is the sore beginning to fester muggles?
That's yir Ortiz offski too; It'll be like a new signing for them!
Hope this deal goes through, then Hearts can get the rest of the Wallace transfer fee. About time too.
Embarrassing!!!!!
dreamin ?, aye thats all you have doine for the last nearly four years, and this one will be no different, YOU callin someone a plank , dont make me laugh your the original woodentop, ya numpty ,
Since you're on here graeme, by your own deduction, you've got nothing else to do.....plank!
Any new 'scoops' for us? Maybe you could check some older threads and claim you broke the story on another thread a couple of hours later!
We're dreaming of a treble this year, What are you dreaming of?
(Don't you just love winding this mob up, and watching them splashing about in a bath of their own pish).
Another Rangers story full of DIMS with nothing else to do..... I have no idea when DOLE money is given out but I guess it's not today simply by the fact they've been on here all morning. The great unwashed they cost the British public an arm and a leg!
CHAMPIONS.
8M plus sell on clauses for Jelavic will allow Rangers to do the required deals to win this seasons SPL like only we know how. The LOSERS across the city can only dream about being CHAMPIONS whereas we are CHAMPIONS!
ALSO RANS GTF!
Sandaza has told them to GTF, so it seems they are trying to tempt Allagui away from Falkirk. Sources say that Wiggy is over in Morocco to see if the family can raise enough money to buy his way in.
Rangers are preparing the 'undisclosed fee' spin, apparently, but too late.... we know lhads, don't we!
Looks like jellys dream move to West Ham, sorry Liverpool, sorry Everton, oh any club will do is about to happen. Now how can the 'gers stall the deal until the last minute to ensure the don't have time to spend the £3 million??????
He will be chewin Toffee by wednesday
On the bright side though, the good news is Rangers might get a bit more money in the door from the sale of Davis, he's off too tomorrow by all accounts. That will be like a new signing for them!
It's official now anyway, Jellylegs has officially downed tools, transfer request in, he wants to go to Everton, his dream move, at any cost! Sound familiar to all you laptop loyal?
£3.5 million, how the mighty have fallen!
Nothing will go through here until the very last minute, meaning Ally gets no cash for a replacement. Just like Mike Astley did last year at Newcastle. Time will tell.
Don't see too many people laughing at Peter Lawwell now...... another planet....LMAO
