Beuzelin hopeful of Celtic upset

Fri 29 Feb, 06:00 PM

Guillaume Beuzelin insists Hibernian have a chance of securing a place in European competition next season after a run of four straight wins.Maximum points from games against Gretna, Aberdeen and Inverness Caledonian Thistle helped lift Mixu Paatelainen's team end a dreadful run in the SPL.

Hibs broke a run of only one win in in 14 league matches and positive result saw them move up to fifth in the table which closed the gap on fourth-placed Dundee United to only one point.

The Easter Road outfit are also just four points behind Motherwell in third place in the race for a UEFA Cup spot.

And their midweek success against Falkirk also ensured they face Celtic this weekend in the knowledge their fifth place is safe in the meantime, no matter the result against the title-chasing Parkhead outfit.

However, Beuzelin has admitted three points against Celtic is not beyond them after a win and a draw against Gordon Strachan's side this term.

He said: "We have just recovered from a very difficult month and we have four wins in a row, so a European place is possible, but we will need to see.

"We have to be careful because three of those games we won were at home.

"The game on Saturday will be difficult. Celtic are a good team but we beat them at home and we drew over there, so we know we are capable of beating them again.

"I don't see a lot of their games but they are still quality everywhere. I know Scott Brown very well, and up front Scott McDonald is very good. We need to be careful but we can beat them."

Beuzelin, who is out of contract in the summer, could come face to face with friend and former team-mate Brown in the midfield battle and is looking forward to the challenge.

And he confirmed he will be take on a more mature and rounded player than the one he met on his arrival in Scottish football nearly four years ago.

"Scotty is never tired, he is unbelievable. I have never seen a player like that who is never tired," he added.

"Year after year he has been getting better and better. When I first came here, he was just a runner.

"He would run everywhere without thinking but now I think he is a very good player."
