The Japan Tennis Association announced the squad would be led by Nishikori, who became the second Japanese man to win an ATP title at Delray Beach in Florida two weeks ago -- in only his sixth tournament on the tour.

"I've been dreaming of representing Japan since my childhood days. I hope children will start playing tennis by watching me playing for Japan. It's a great honour that I received a chance to play for Japan," he said.

If he plays in the tie on April 11-13 in New Delhi, Nishikori, the Japanese number-one and world 123, will become the youngest Japanese to play in the Davis Cup at 18 years three months 13 days.

Go Soeda, Takao Suzuki and Satoshi Iwabuchi were also named for the squad, with Tatsuma Ito and Yuichi Sugita as substitutes.

The winners of the tie will reach a play-off for the World Group.
