Bees buzz past rock-bottom Dragons

Barnet put another nail in Wrexham's relegation coffin after securing a closely contested 3-2 victory in a five-goal thriller at Underhill. The first-half gave no indication of what was to come with long-range efforts from Barnet's Anthony Thomas and Matt Done of Wrexham the best either side could muster.

That was until injury time when Ismail Yakubu rose highest inside a packed penalty area to head Nicky Nicolau's free kick beyond the helpless Gavin Ward in the visitors' goal.

Wrexham looked dead and buried within six minutes of the restart as Nicolau's cross was flicked on by Albert Adomah and the impressive Thomas produced a stunning overhead kick to turn the ball home. But four minutes later the Dragons were back in it as a route one Gareth Evans free kick was headed home by the visitors' on-loan MK Dons striker Drewe Broughton.

The lively Nicolau then restored the Bees' two-goal cushion in the 62nd minute as, after being fed in by Thomas, he drilled a low shot beyond Ward from an acute angle.

Wrexham rallied again and Simon Spender reduced the arrears four minutes later as he fired beyond Harrison from the edge of the box after Paul Hall had created space with a clever back heel.
