Wigan manager Steve Bruce has paid tribute to the remarkable job Harry Redknapp has done at Saturday's rivals Portsmouth.Latics head to Fratton Park on Saturday hoping to pick up some valuable points in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Portsmouth survived with 38 points in 2005-06 at the expense of Birmingham, who were then managed by Bruce.
Redknapp has since established Pompey as a top-10 Premier League club and Bruce will be hoping to do the same with Wigan if he can steer the Latics to safety.
"It's quite incredible how they have turned things around and you have to say well done to Harry for what he's built there and that he's built it so quickly," said Bruce.
"I remember a couple of years ago when Birmingham got relegated, and we beat Portsmouth 5-0 in January.
"They had a couple of weeks in that transfer window to do something about it and they went and brought in eight players, three from Spurs including Sean Davis and Pedro Mendes.
"From that day they have survived and they have slowly but surely built a team that's now in the top half of the Premier League."
