Leeds and Brighton had to settle for a goalless draw as the in-form Seagulls remained without a win at Elland Road since 1985.Leeds were unchanged, while Brighton, beaten only twice in their last 11 games, were thankful to have defender Andy Whing back after suspension.
It was the alert Whing who made a magnificent goal-line clearance from Dougie Freedman's fierce shot with the game only 14 minutes old.
And Freedman went close again when he flicked Bradley Johnson's centre inches outside the far post with Brighton on the back foot.
Strikers Nicky Forster and Glenn Murray were starved of shooting opportunities with Leeds captain Rui Marques and Lubo Michalik forming a stubborn barrier and when Murray had the ball in the net in the 63rd minute he was ruled offside.
Brighton had strong claims for a penalty when Murray fell down following substitute Jonathan Douglas' clumsy tackle but referee David Foster waved play on, much to Murray's disgust.
