Posh sink Imps to regain top spot

Sat 29 Mar, 09:15 PM

Peterborough brushed aside Lincoln 4-0 at home to go back to the top of the table and stretch their unbeaten league run to 16 games.Despite early heroics by Lincoln goalkeeper Alan Marriott, Posh went in front with Aaron Mclean (18) firing into the roof of the net for his 30th goal of the season.

Mclean was thwarted by the hard-worked Marriott on two more occasions but Posh should have finished the half with more to show for their almost constant possession.

Mclean (51) swept in his second with Lincoln stretched on the left as Paul Green received treatment off the pitch.

Scott Rendell (56) made it three from the tightest of angles following Chris Whelpdale's long throw before netting again (68) when firing through Marriott's legs.

Substitute Jamie Forrester caused Posh a few problems in the closing stages only to waste his best chance firing high over the home bar, although at the other end Nat Brown did well to prevent Whelpdale joining the scoring spree when making a goal-line clearance.
