Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster insists he will stay on at the Spanish giants even if the side fail to defend their league title this season. The 48-year-old took over the post in July last year and revealed that Real president Ramon Calderon has told him that his immediate future is safe at the club.
Real currently sit top of the league table but the club saw their advantage over nearest rivals Barcelona shrink to four points after a 3-2 loss at home to Valencia last time out.
The side held a nine-point lead over the Catalan club earlier in the campaign but five losses this year have seen Barcelona close the gap.
Schuster believes his side can still take the league title and says building the team in the summer will be his next priority.
"I know we must win but we are in the process of building a team and there is still work to be done," said Schuster.
"We need this summer (to recruit) and I hope to carry out the second part of this project having won the league.
"We have lost many matches but we are the leaders, we have a four-point lead over Barcelona and we can win the league."
