MIAMI (AFP) - US veteran Lindsay Davenport showed no sign of the back injury that forced her out at Indian Wells last week as she posted a workmanlike 6-2, 6-1 victory over Camille Pin Saturday at the Sony Ericsson Open.

This time it was Davenport's opponent who was battling a bad back, receiving treatment during the second-round match.

"I know she got injured, and I don't think she ran down as many balls as she normally does," said Davenport, who was pleased nonetheless to get her opening match of the tournament behind her after enjoying a first-round bye.

"I was trying to get used to the conditions out there," Davenport said. "For here it's a pretty calm day, but it's still a steady breeze going one way - happy to get off the court relatively fast and pretty efficient."

Davenport could face an intriguing third-round encounter with second-seeded Serbian Ana Ivanovic who was to take on France's Emilie Loit later Saturday.

Ivanovic, whose runner-up finish at the Australian Open propelled her to number two in the world in January, arrives in Miami fresh from winning the women's title at Indian Wells on Sunday.

The rising Serbian star has never played Davenport, a former world number one who took 11 months off to give birth to her first child, returning last September.

Upon her return last year Davenport promptly won titles in Bali and Quebec City, and she has captured two titles already this year, at Auckland and Memphis.

However, she retired from her quarter-final contest with Serbian Jelena Jankovic at Indian Wells with a lower back injury.

Jankovic, the fourth seed, was also in action Saturday, taking on Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden.
