Canada striker Will Johnson stepped off the substitutes' bench to score his first goal for De Graafscap and rescue a valuable 1-1 draw in their bid to avoid relegation.

FC Groningen had taken the lead on the stroke of half-time when former De Graafschap striker Berry Powel found the net, only for Johnson to score the equaliser seven minutes from time.

The result lifts De Graafscap two points clear of the relegation zone, while Groningen's hopes of finishing inside the Champions League qualifying play-off places suffered a blow.
