Derby were relegated to the Championship despite playing out an entertaining 2-2 Premier League draw with second-bottom Fulham at Pride Park.
Paul Jewell's side broke the deadlock on 10 minutes when former Fulham defender Dean Leacock's long-range shot struck the knee of Emanuel Villa on the edge of the penalty area and fooled goalkeeper Kasey Keller.
Roy Hodgson's side equalised in the 24th minute when Diomansy Kamara headed Simon Davies's cross home from six yards.
The Cottagers then took the lead when Leacock put through a Hameur Bouazza shot into his own net in the 78th minute after Roy Carroll had saved well from Kamara.
But Villa equalised almost immediately, sending a glancing header past Keller after good work on the right by Australia midfielder Mile Sterjovski.
Wins for Birmingham and Sunderland meant that Derby went down despite the point. Fulham lie two points behind third-bottom Bolton but six off safety.
