Nugent was left out in the cold at Fratton Park by Redknapp, who paid Preston £6 million for him in 2007, but Tony Adams and now Paul Hart have shown faith in the 23-year-old Pompey forward.

He told the Star on Sunday: "I had a tough time under him (Redknapp). I don't think he fancied me. But Tony Adams gave me a chance and now Paul Hart's here and doing a good job.

"Now my confidence has come back and I'm really enjoying it."
