Hull boss Phil Brown is banking on Ian Ashbee's late winner against Crystal Palace last weekend having a "detrimental effect" on rivals Stoke. The Potters were on the verge of securing a top-two finish until Ashbee's third goal of the season sunk Palace 2-1 and kept City in the hunt for automatic promotion.
Victory at Ipswich on Sunday - and a Stoke defeat against Leicester - would see the Tigers clinch a place in the Premier League, and Brown believes Tony Pulis' men have suffered a big psychological blow.
"The effect of Ian Ashbee's winner against Crystal Palace was massive on the promotion Richter scale, absolutely massive," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.
"Stoke had one foot in the Premier League on Saturday, they could feel it and they could touch it. Players and fans looked disappointed once they heard about our goal.
"They thought they were there but we took it away from them. That could have a tremendous detrimental effect on them."
