Holt intends to sign with Cobblers

Tue 29 Apr, 03:00 PM

Northampton midfielder Andy Holt believes his versatility persuaded manager Stuart Gray to offer him a new contract at Sixfields.Holt - along with young midfielder Ryan Gilligan - was offered a new deal last week and is set to sign for a promotion challenge next year.

He has played at left-back, wing-back, centre-back, central midfield and on the left of a front three since signing from Wrexham in 2006 and believes that has helped his cause.

He said: "I've said to the gaffer that I want to be here next season and it's just a case now of sitting down with him and sorting everything out. I think I'm quite a versatile player and that is a good help for the team because the gaffer knows that if somebody gets an injury he can throw me in there and I'll do a job for him.

"We are building a good team here and I see no reason why we can't make a push for promotion next season."

Meanwhile long-serving physio Dennis Casey will retire at the end of the season after 23 years at the Cobblers.
