Johnson rules out wholesale changes

Manager Gary Johnson has vowed to be loyal to his current crop of players should Bristol City be promoted to the Premier League.Already guaranteed a place in the Championship play-offs, the Robins have their sights set on a second successive promotion.

Chairman Steve Lansdown recently claimed that up to £30million would need to be invested in squad rebuilding if City were to avoid the fate that has befallen Derby in the Premier League this season.

But Johnson insists that most of the players responsible for getting the club this far will be given the opportunity to prove themselves in the top flight if the Robins go up.

"I said the same thing to them last year when we were trying to get out of League One - if they get us up, we'll keep the majority of them and they'll have an opportunity to prove themselves in the league above," said Johnson.

"They've shown so much spirit to get us where we are, I don't want to burst their bubble by telling them they won't play in the Premier League.

"They're excited about playing in the Premier League and that's what has got us in this position. A vast majority of the lads deserve the chance to show what they can do and will be staying put. I think that's only fair."
