Coventry have announced that director Sir Derek Higgs died on Monday at the age of 64.Until Ray Ranson's takeover of the club in December, Higgs had been a key member of the club's board having served on it for almost a decade.
Born in Coventry, Higgs eventually became chairman of the charity that bore his father's name.
The Alan Edward Higgs Charity continues to give over £750,000 a year to causes within 25 miles of Coventry and was instrumental in securing the future of the football club after it bought Coventry's 50% stake in the Ricoh Arena, allowing the stadium to be built in 2005.
Higgs was present on Saturday as a record crowd of 27,992 for a Coventry league match watched the 1-1 draw against midlands rivals Wolves.
