Former boss Sam Allardyce has criticised the way Bolton Wanderers have failed to build on the legacy he left them when he departed a year ago.
Allardyce famously led the club from the Championship to UEFA Cup football during his eight years in charge.
But with the team hovering just a point above the relegation zone the ex-Wanderers boss has spoken out.
"To see the demise of a team that was put together over a huge period of time and then virtually all pulled apart, and I am not just talking about on the field but off the field, is quite sad and upsetting for me," he told the Bolton Evening News.
Bolton are currently one point and two places above the relegation zone with two matches of the season remaining. Those games are at home to Sunderland and away at Chelsea.
Allardyce left the Trotters at the end of last season in a bid to test his managerial skills at a more financially capable club, with the aim of winning the silverware which has eluded him thus far.
Less than two weeks later he joined Newcastle United, but was sacked in January after a run of poor results.
