Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a fee of £16.5 million fee for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Luka Modric.
Modric, a key part of the Croatia national side that beat England 3-2 at Wembley last November, will join the north London club in the summer for £16.5 million.
The playmaker was at White Hart Lane on Saturday to be unveiled to fans before Spurs' 1-1 draw with Bolton, though the deal was yet to be finalised.
Initial reports had suggested that the 22-year-old would join for around £1 million less than the final amount agreed.
A statement on the club's official website said that Modric will be signed "for a total consideration of Euro 21 million (£16.5 million), payable in instalments over the next four years."
The statement continued: "The player's contract is for a period of up to six years and the agreement is conditional upon the granting of a work permit."
The fee will equal the club record paid out for a player set by the signing of striker Darren Bent from Charlton Athletic last summer.
